Many of my clients ask me how to frame their treated works of art safely, so they will be adequately protected and last for many more years to come. I recommend finding a professional framer who will use wheat starch paste to mount or hinge your artwork into the framing package. You will also want to be sure that the mat board and backing board used in the framing package is 100% archival alpha-cellulose fiber. Additionally, sealing the framed artwork with a vapor barrier such as Marvelseal is ideal, to protect the artwork from any environmental contaminants or water incursion. Not all framers use archival materials and reversible techniques, so it is important to ask questions and be certain you know what your options are.
